Disambiguation: 'verses
Oct. 16th, 2009 11:16 pmThis applies to this journal and
letsdropin; the Pogue relevant is
lieutenantwitch and Chase is
broken_circles. Tyler is
their_babyboy. Ginny is
lilginnygirl.
Girls YAY (This name is subject to change): Currently default 'verse. Pogue and Kate split up around spring break of their senior year in high school; Caleb and Sarah's relationship persevered. Chase and Ginny had both meetings, dating during high school senior year, and later towards the end of junior year at Brown, the additional meeting during which Ginny gets pregnant. Isabel is born. Reid goes to medical school; meets Alya there. A year later, Chase goes to the same medical school, and they end up roommates. Pogue, in Ipswich, opens up his garage; Irene (
shecan_fix_that) starts working there; eventually they date. Tyler goes to a graduate degree in something literary, then returns to teach at Spenser. Dates a guy for about three years; then that guy just... leaves. After that, Beatrice (Bea) reappears in his life.
Who with whom? Well, in this 'verse, Caleb and Pogue never have sex. Reid and Pogue do; as well as (unless playing with another Tyler) Reid and Tyler.
As in all 'verses, when any of the boys are dating (and/or married), the rest of the boys, no touchee. Chase being occasionally an exception to that, until he gets the hang of it.
Divergence: This is a branch from the above 'verse. When Isabel is born, Chse does something incredibly stupid (to himself) in front of Ginny and Caleb; in the aftershock (and watch), Caleb does something also stupid, together with Chase. Then he was even more of an idiot about it. In the end, even though there were no repeat offenses, Sarah decides that there were things that not even Caleb Danvers is worth putting up with, and ends it. Caleb takes months to recover from that, in the meanwhile the boys making acquaintance with Dee (
ihasataser), who slowly develops a crush on him that'll last years. Caleb, on the other hand, decides to act on the other love he betrayed with Chase; however, Pogue is at the time (first semester of senior year at Harvard) very settled in being single and not up to being in a relationship. That alone freaks Caleb out, and then the second blow of being rejected, washes over him, the backlash upsetting Pogue in turn. For a while, the boys are upset enough to almost seem to be falling apart (Chase blaming himself for it, too, oops); however, they do pull together, by degrees starting to cope with the upset and owing to Tyler's idea for a get-away. Then the events follow the ones in girls YAY 'verse, minus Sarah, until about a month after Pogue and Irene hook up. There's weird kissing and pot, and in the end, out of one couple and two singles, Pogue, Irene, Caleb, and Dee emerge as a more-or-less foursome.
And the world doesn't even end.
Pile o' puppies: Pogue and Kate split up around spring break of their senior year in high school. Caleb and Sarah break up sometime during freshman year at Harvard. Somewhat later, when they're back at home, Caleb walks in on Reid and Pogue; shortly after that, Pogue-and-Caleb begins. Reid and Tyler fool around the way they often do. Reid and Caleb figure out their differences, mostly by Reid crawling into Caleb's lap and kissing him, a bit out of the blue for the older boy. Second semester of senior year at Harvard, Tyler walks in on them kissing a lot and kind of runs away; Pogue decides it's the perfect time to return the walking-in on Caleb. Foursome ensues. Later, Caleb and Pogue are more and more couply; Tyler and Reid go to grad school together/very close. Eventually steadying - but not as a couple, but a threesome with a girl. Which proves surprisingly stable.
Cliffs of Insanity: Pogue and Kate split up around spring break of their senior year in high school. Caleb and Sarah break up sometime during freshman year at Harvard. Caleb and Pogue hook up. ... and then Kate changes her mind, about their junior year at Harvard. Grows up, comes back to Pogue. Caleb steps back, after about two years together with Pogue. Not very happy. They graduate; Pogue and Kate return to Ipswich; Caleb, Reid, and Tyler scatter around grad schools (kind of; Reid and Tyler actually go to the same one). ... Caleb running into Chase. No, they don't have a smack-down trying to kill each other; Chase has had his first run-in with Ginny and is changed, somewhat. Caleb's free-falling, in a way. Things go through getting stoned together and ... more. Until they're basically dating. Oops. The rocky relationship evens out some when they adopt one of Chase's patients, Mary; or maybe it's also due to the fact that Caleb is Caleb and he doesn't commit halfway.
Things are always on the edge, in this 'verse. There can be, and is, happiness, but the danger of things tipping over the cliff and spinning away into destruction or insanity is always there.

Right. Just for our own sakes' reference, and for anybody who wants to follow/join in this, here it goes. For now, the dramatis personae are: Chase -
broken_circles. Ginny -
lilginnygirl. Caleb - this one. Pogue -
lieutenantwitch. Sarah is
astrayinadream.
It all started with this three-parter fic: Part I, Part II, and Part III, set in the next schoolyear after the events of the movie, where Chase tries the senior year thing again.
And then Chase and Ginny ran across each other again, around two years later. Link with that story will go here.
That encounter resulted in Ginny getting pregnant. Which she informed Chase of by leaving him a voicemail message from a public payphone. Probably around very early August.
A few days later, he wound up back in Ipswich. And he talked with Caleb. And then he asked the boys to help him find somebody. to which Caleb reacted with wanting more information, which Chase refused.
And then Caleb figured it out. After which he needed a tiny bit of time with Pogue.
He called and got an OK from Ginny to come visit her, because this all wasn't for the phone. Before which he talked with Chase again, where things got additionally clarified and confused.
After which Pogue and Caleb went to visit Ginny. And took another, longer time out on the way back.
On the next day (Wednesday), he talked with Chase again, telling him about that, sort of.
The Friday, the conversations between Caleb and Chase actually seem to be getting somewhere; and then Ginny calls for that meeting. Which really didn't go well. And then a bit of talk on the way back.
Then Caleb brought Sarah up to date. Warning: This thread has taken a decidedly NSFW turn.
Next day, early morning, he set off to pick up Pogue from Ginny's. And later, Caleb and Pogue talked with Chase. After which Caleb took the evening off. Really.
And later Pogue had a reaction to it all, where he talked both with Sarah and with Caleb.
Caleb sent to Ginny Chase's letter. And her phone, so Ginny and Chase talked some.
Chase had commentary on the boys starting fun without him, where he talked with Caleb, with (a) Tyler, and briefly with Sarah. Who then talked with both Pogue and Caleb.
And then Caleb had a conversation with Ginny.
Revelations from the past - some of what Caleb finds out about Chase's family and somewhat more is revealed when Caleb makes a visit to Chase on-campus.

Mkay, so. Some notes about this Caleb, just in case you see stuff that may be confusing.
* Unless otherwise noted, interactive posts are 'current date', as in, summer of 2009, close to three years after the events of the movie. Caleb is heading towards his junior year at Harvard.
* When tagging other people's posts, if those posts are closer to the end of the movie or otherwise dated, he will be playing as of that time. If we're going for a wrong time frame, let us know and the reactions will be fixed.
* Power. Caleb has it. It's driving him crazy. Sometimes, it's only his bond with others - the other three boys in particular - which is keeping him from succumbing to it, and it's a near thing. That makes him clingy, in various ways. Also, his ascension was not a good experience in various ways, and additionally screws things up. But also, power... is life.
* Relationships
- Pogue (
lieutenantwitch) (cleared with mun, more or less) - there have been various levels of shenanigans; not in the least in the 'teenager exploratory' manner, but also out of said clinginess, closeness, and caring for each other. Most clearly, if one of the other is interested in some, the reaction will not be 'eww no' - but will depend on other circumstances. Comfort proximity. Which may or may not mean sexual intimacy at any point in time. ETA: Which they apparently, in the main storyline, haven't quite done, exploring them has revealed.
- Sarah (not cleared with mun/s, up for discussion about details) - he does care extremely much for her, she is important, and he does love her. What precisely is the type of their relationship/commitment by this time is open to figuring out.
- Reid and Tyler (not cleared with muns - well, we're still keeping an eye open for a Tyler! - but again open for discussion) - The four of them have been raised to the Covenant. They are all committed to it. He was the first to ascend, and he got the additional share of his father, even if he didn't ask for it; he won't stop trying to take care of all of them and keep them out of trouble (which Pogue tends to be more successful at). They're the Sons of Ipswich, and Caleb won't ever turn his back on that, in any way.
- Chase (
broken_circles; working it out with the mun, these are mostly Caleb's attitudes) - Chase has been gone since 2006; between time and power and responsibility, Caleb's had a lot of a chance to think things through. Mostly, he's focused on a few points.
> Chase is also of the Covenant bloodlines. That his ancestors committed to. Which shoves on him another responsibility.
> Chase is dangerous. The more unstable he is, the more dangerous, up to and including for the Covenant families, as has been demonstrated. He'd do a lot to make sure that danger is kept... under some sort of control.
> Caleb cannot at this time bring himself to try and outright kill Chase. There have been points in the past when he thought he would, and should, but he can't.
> Now that Chase is back, Caleb's reaction are attempts are to bring him back into the 'fold'. Try and steady him, try and help control the addiction, although he's not too hopeful about that, or at least try to make sure he will be comfortable and cared for, rather than even MORE dangerous, when Chase's powers take their toll. No, Caleb's not sure it will work. No, he's not sure how the other three will take it, especially Pogue. No, he's not happy with it. No, he'll not give it up, because the alternatives seem worse to him.
- His mother - while she's not exactly well, William's final act did loosen something in her. She's still very anxious about Caleb, watching him closely and worrying. He's still trying to take care of her as well as he can.
* Other. Umm. Feel free to ask/suggest/discuss! I'm up to both clearing things up and plotting.
